Text Size Animated

The GPU-powered sub-pixel layout capabilities of Internet Explorer 9 is made possible by the new Windows 7 Direct2D and DirectWrite technologies.

When you click “Animate Font Size,” the size of the sample text is animated from 48 points to 96 points in half-point increments. When viewed in the Internet Explorer Platform Preview, the animation should appear brisk and smooth. When viewed in browsers that do not support GPU-powered sub-pixel positioning, the text appears to jump because the text needs to be created using the CPU and the positions of each letter are rounded to the nearest whole pixel.

The end result of sub-pixel positioned text is improved performance and readability of Web pages and a more faithful representation of the Web designer’s intent.
